The Reckoning, a book by John Grisham. Get The Reckoning Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Reckoning books, #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • John Grisham's most powerful, surprising, and suspenseful thriller yet • “A murder mystery, a courtroom drama, a family saga.” —USA Today October 1946, Clanton, Mississippi Pete Banning was Clanton, Mississippi’s favorite son—a decorated World War II hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, father, neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning he rose early, drove into town, and committed a shocking crime. Pete's only statement about it—to the sheriff, to his lawyers, to the judge, to the jury, and to his family—was: "I have nothing to say." He was not afraid of death and was willing to take his motive to the grave. In a major novel unlike anything he has written before, John Grisham takes us on an incredible journey, from the Jim Crow South to the jungles of the Philippines during World War II; from an insane asylum filled with secrets to the Clanton courtroom where Pete’s defense attorney tries desperately to save him. Reminiscent of the finest tradition of Southern Gothic storytelling, The Reckoning would not be complete without Grisham’s signature layers of legal suspense, and he delivers on every page.

The Reckoning, a book by Jeff Long. Get The Reckoning Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Reckoning books, Enter the territory of Jeff Long, where the unknown is deeply present, death is a constant shadow, and the human spirit is our final hope. Now comes The Reckoning, another superbly original thriller -- a story of predation, betrayal, and resurrection that is at once intricate, haunting, and terrifying. Armed with only a camera and iron determination, thirty-year-old photojournalist Molly Drake arrives in modern-day Cambodia to cover the U.S. military search for the remains of an American pilot shot down during the Vietnam War. In this eerie wasteland pockmarked with human bones and live land mines, the people hold more secrets than the landscape, from aging archaeologist Duncan O'Brian to John Kleat, a caustic vet hunting for his long lost brother. When Molly's camera captures a flight helmet buried among Khmer Rouge victims, diplomatic powers force her and her civilian comrades off the dig. But just as a typhoon looms offshore, the outcasts learn of an even bigger find. A mysterious expatriot guides them into the ruins of an ancient city, where they begin a harrowing search for the remains of an entire patrol of GIs that strayed in combat thirty years ago. With storm winds hammering their jungle fortress, Molly discovers that a war she never knew never died. Her survival comes to depend on her journalistic skills to solve a forgotten murder among these warriors left behind. In the end, her only hope for salvation is to redeem the lost souls that surround her. As stylishly written as it is suspenseful, The Reckoning is a thriller that illuminates the fragile thread between life and death, knowledge and ignorance, hope and horror. Bringing readers ever closer to enemy territory, it is a hair-raising journey into one of modern history's darkest periods and an intense look into the hearts still haunted by it.

The Reckoning, a book by Rusty Beauquet. Get The Reckoning Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Reckoning books, A reticent stranger. A town keeping a grave secret. And there’s a score to settle, things to put right. An unsuspecting lone rider comes to a tiny town on the west bank of the Pecos River possessing a terrible secret the residents are determined to protect. By violence if necessary. When McNeil rode into Dead Horse Crossing, a tiny town on the west bank of the Pecos, he wasn’t looking for trouble. Tight-lipped about the purpose of his visit, he immediately gets a chilly reception from the townspeople. McNeil rents a room at the hotel, only to be harassed by a cowboy named Cotton Patrick for no apparent reason. McNeil’s attempts to get directions to an area ranch create further hostility, prompting a local powerful rancher, Bull Sommers, to take a keen interest in McNeil’s presence. McNeil visits the town marshal’s office for help only to discover that the marshal, Bud Long, also doubles as the town drunk and is useless. McNeil mentions he is trying to locate a rancher named Denton Everhart at the local Lazy E ranch and Long becomes as hostile as the rest of townsfolk. Then when he persists in riding out to the Lazy E, real trouble finds him. It becomes apparent that the good people of Dead Horse Crossing have something to hide. And when McNeil stumbles onto their terrible secret, he touches a nerve so sensitive he spends the rest of his time in town fighting for his life. But he isn’t the only one. Part of the secret McNeil uncovers means he has a score to settle. Before he quits this speck of a town on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, others will fight to stay alive, too. For McNeil, it’s not about revenge. He demands a reckoning. Something terrible is happening in Dead Horse Crossing. And someone must stop it. Someone needs to pay. Outnumbered and outgunned, can McNeil survive to set things right? Or will evil triumph and the guilty go free? The Reckoning, the debut novel in the new Lone Rider classic western fiction series, is perfect for fans of the greats like Louis L’Amour, Ralph Compton, and Elmer Kelton.

The Reckoning, a book by Mary L. Trump. Get The Reckoning Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Reckoning books, The instant New York Times and USA Today bestseller America is suffering from PTSD—The Reckoning diagnoses its core causes and helps us begin the healing process. For four years, Donald J. Trump inflicted an onslaught of overlapping and interconnected traumas upon the American people, targeting anyone he perceived as being an “other” or an enemy. Women were discounted and derided, the sick were dismissed as weak and unworthy of help, immigrants and minorities were demonized and discriminated against, and money was elevated above all else. In short, he transformed our country into a macro version of his malignantly dysfunctional family. How can we make sense of the degree to which our institutions and leaders have let us down? How can we negotiate a world in which all sense of safety and justice seems to have been destroyed? How can we—as individuals and as a nation—confront, process, and overcome this loss of trust and the ways we have been forever altered by chaos, division, and cruelty? And when the dust finally settles, how can we begin to heal, in the midst of ongoing health and economic crises and the greatest political divide since the Civil War? Mary L. Trump is uniquely positioned to answer these difficult questions. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology specializing in trauma, has herself been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, and happens to be Donald J. Trump’s only niece. In The Reckoning, she applies her unique expertise to the task of helping us confront an all-encompassing trauma, one that has taken an immense toll on our nation’s health and well-being. A new leader alone cannot fix us. Donald J. Trump is only the latest symptom of a disease that has existed within the body politic since America’s inception—from the original sin of slavery through our unceasing, organized commitment to inequality. Our failure to acknowledge this, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasize. Now, we are confronted with the limits of our own agency on a daily basis. Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the unspeakable stress of living in a country we no longer recognize has affected all of us for a long time, in ways we may not fully understand. An enormous amount of healing must be done to rebuild our lives, our faith in leadership, and our hope for this nation. It starts with The Reckoning.

In a phone booth beside a dusty Arizona highway, fifteen-year-old Cate listens in on yet another conversation between Les (the man who has raised her since she was a toddler) and her mother. But this is no ordinary chit chat, for the woman at the end of the line hasn’t seen her daughter since she was three years old, and the man in the phone booth is the homeless drifter who abducted Cate from beside her sleeping parents over a decade ago. Now Les has finally determined that the time has come for Cate to go home. How will Cate cope with learning to love a mother she can’t remember, and with learning to reject the father-figure she has loved for twelve years? How will her mother reconcile the memories of her three-year-old daughter with the hard-bitten, poorly educated and cynical teenager who turns up on her doorstep in Virginia? And what will happen to them both when the awful secret Cate is hiding is brought out into the open? Electrifying, brilliantly written and taut with suspense, The Reckoning is an intense and riveting meditation on the themes of loss and reunion, parents and children, and nature versus nurture.

Download When the Reckoning Comes books, A haunting novel about a black woman who returns to her hometown for a plantation wedding and the horror that ensues as she reconnects with the blood-soaked history of the land and the best friends she left behind. More than a decade ago, Mira fled her small, segregated hometown in the south to forget. With every mile she traveled, she distanced herself from her past: from her best friend Celine, mocked by their town as the only white girl with black friends; from her old neighborhood; from the eerie Woodsman plantation rumored to be haunted by the spirits of slaves; from the terrifying memory of a ghost she saw that terrible day when a dare-gone-wrong almost got Jesse—the boy she secretly loved—arrested for murder. But now Mira is back in Kipsen to attend Celine’s wedding at the plantation, which has been transformed into a lush vacation resort. Mira hopes to reconnect with her friends, and especially, Jesse, to finally tell him the truth about her feelings and the events of that devastating long-ago day. But for all its fancy renovations, the Woodsman remains a monument to its oppressive racist history. The bar serves antebellum drinks, entertainment includes horrifying reenactments, and the service staff is nearly all black. Yet the darkest elements of the plantation’s past have been carefully erased—rumors that slaves were tortured mercilessly and that ghosts roam the lands, seeking vengeance on the descendants of those who tormented them, which includes most of the wedding guests. As the weekend unfolds, Mira, Jesse, and Celine are forced to acknowledge their history together, and to save themselves from what is to come.

Download The Reckoning books, New York Times Bestseller: “A historical overview of the auto industry in the United States and Japan [and] the gradual decline of U.S. manufacturing” (Library Journal). After generations of creating high-quality automotive products, American industrialists began losing ground to the Japanese auto industry in the decades after World War II. David Halberstam, with his signature precision and absorbing narrative style, traces this power shift by delving into the boardrooms and onto the factory floors of the America’s Ford Motor Company and Japan’s Nissan. Different in every way—from their reactions to labor problems to their philosophies and leadership styles—the two companies stand as singular testaments to the challenges brought by the rise of the global economy. From the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Fifties and The Coldest Winter, and filled with intriguing vignettes about Henry Ford, Lee Iacocca, and other visionary industrial leaders, The Reckoning remains a powerful and enlightening story about manufacturing in the modern age, and how America fell woefully behind. This ebook features an extended biography of David Halberstam.

The Reckoning, a book by Ninie Hammon. Get The Reckoning Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Reckoning books, Sorceress of psychological suspense, Ninie Hammon, brings you the third book in The Knowing Saga, a sprawling tale of spiritual warfare that spans a quarter of a century. If you crave sleep-with-the-lights-on suspense coupled with characters so true they'll feel like family then, The Reckoning is right up your alley. Ordinary people. A demon from hell. The final showdown... In the summer of 1985, Daniel Burke, Becca Hawkins, and Jack Carpenter confronted a demon prince, an efreet, and somehow drove it back to hell. They were twelve years old. Twenty-six years later, the efreet returns and sends superhuman assassins to kill the now-adult “Three Muskateers” before they can challenge him again. Reconnecting for the first time in a quarter of a century, the childhood friends piece together fragmentary memories of that long-ago summer as they fight desperately to stay alive—and to stop the voracious quest for power of the man possessed by the efreet, Chapman Whitworth, Now comes the final confrontation. The only thing that stands between Whitworth and the presidency of the United States is a rag-tag group of ordinary people--Daniel, Becca, Jack, and their friends. This time, they have to go after the demon, not the man—and it doesn’t matter that none of them remembers how they defeated it the first time. They have to find the monster--hidden in a labyrinth of dark caves protected by legions of poisonous spiders and snakes. And they have to stand together against it. If any one of them breaks, they all will die. It has come down to this—one last chance. It’s time for the reckoning. The Knowing began the tale. The Deceiving expanded it. Now, The Reckoning delivers a heart-pounding continuation with a riveting account of the battle against an evil as old as the skeleton of the universe. ★★★★★ "Simply phenomenal. It's hard to nail the conclusion to a trilogy in a satisfying manner, but Ninie really knocked it out of the park." -- Steve Bochte ★★★★★ "What a ripping finale to the trilogy!! The author's wild imagination, coupled with brilliant word skills and dazzling descriptive abilities, present this work as a reading experience - not just a book. Suspense, action, horror, intrigue - it's all there, along with beautifully balanced and subtle humour when the occasion calls for it." -- M. Dusrston ★★★★★ "There are times during the reading of the book that I was so caught up in the story that I reacted physically with racing heart and sweating palms. At other times I consciously breathed a sigh of relief and appreciated the calm. It's possible to read any of the three books in this set alone and follow the story line. But don't cheat yourself, read The Knowing and The Deceiving before you jump off into The Reckoning. You won't regret it!" -- Phyllis W. ★★★★★ "LOVED IT....Again Ninie has not let me down. Before I read book 3 I re-read the first two again. I was expecting to rush thru those because of knowing what happened, NOT. I enjoyed reading them again and picked up some points I didn't see the first time. If you have not tried this author, you really must. Most of her books I would give 10 stars if I could. You rock Ninie!!!" -- D. Price ★★★★★ "This book is fairly fast paced which makes it hard to put down. The fact that the action keeps you turning pages, sometimes does cause me to get less sleep. Then when I finally read the last page, I am sorry that I read so quickly and that it is already over." -- Kaye If you like fast-paced action, gut-tying thrills and themes that will challenge everything you believe about yourself, life and reality, about good and evil and the whole nature of the universe—The Reckoning is the book for you.

Download The Reckoning books, In The Reckoning, Randall Robinson examines the crime and poverty that grips much of urban America and urges black Americans to speak out and reach back to ensure their social and economic success in this country. With insight, compassion, and unflinching honesty, Robinson explores the twin blights of crime and poverty—the former often a symptom of the latter—and asks questions that are critical to the rebuilding of black communities: How do we create awareness of the heroic efforts already being made and how can we bring our troubled youth to safety? A product of Robinson’s work with gang members, ex-convicts, and others who have been scarred by the harshness of life in our inner cities, The Reckoning is certain to be as important and controversial as his earlier books.

Download The Reckoning books, The authors of After the Revolution return with an incisive study of the work of contemporary women artists. In After the Revolution, the authors concluded that "The battles may not all have been won . . . but barricades are gradually coming down, and work proceeds on all fronts in glorious profusion." Now, with The Reckoning, authors Heartney, Posner, Princenthal, and Scott bring into focus the accomplishments of 24 acclaimed international women artists born since 1960 who have benefited from the groundbreaking efforts of their predecessors. The book is organized in four thematic sections: "Bad Girls" profiles artists whose work represents an assault on conventional notions of gender and racial difference. "History Lessons" offers reflections on the self in the context of history and globalization. "Spellbound" focuses on women’s embrace of the irrational, subjective, and surreal, while "Domestic Disturbances" takes on women's conflicted relationship to home, family, and security. Written in lively prose and fully illustrated throughout, this book gives an informed account of the wonderful diversity of recent contemporary art by women. "An indispensable contribution to the literature on contemporary art by women." (Whitney Chadwick, author of Women, Art and Society) "In the 2007 book After the Revolution: Women Who Transformed Contemporary Art, [the authors] set a new standard in documenting and evaluating the work of a dozen key women artists, spanning generations between the 1960s to the 2000s. . . The beat goes on with the appearance of The Reckoning, written by the same authors in the same accessible scholarly style, but reflecting important historical changes over the past decade and more. In line with the increased presence of women in mainstream art, the book includes twice as many artists as its predecessor. And its global reach has expanded vastly, stretching from Europe and the Americas to Africa and China." (Holland Cotter, The New York Times)

Read it—it’s moving, brave and just profoundly human and sad....There aren’t any answers. This is why what Peter Lanza did by sharing his story with Andrew Solomon is so important. Lanza’s story fills important gaps in our understanding of how a beloved child became a killer—and reminds us as a society that we have an obligation to help families and children before they find themselves on irreversible paths of violence” (Time).

Download The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond books, For over a century, the town of Gossamer Grove has thrived on its charm and midwestern values, but Annalise Forsythe knows painful secrets, including her own, hover just beneath the pleasant fa ade. When a man is found dead in his run-down trailer home, Annalise inherits the trailer, along with the pictures, vintage obituaries, and old revival posters covering its walls. As she sorts through the collection, she's wholly unprepared for the ramifications of the dark and deadly secrets she'll uncover. A century earlier, Gossamer Grove has been stirred into chaos by the arrival of controversial and charismatic twin revivalists. The chaos takes a murderous turn when Libby Sheffield, working at her father's newspaper, receives an obituary for a reputable church deacon hours before his death. As she works with the deacon's son to unravel the mystery behind the crime, it becomes undeniably clear that a reckoning has come to town--but it isn't until another obituary arrives that they realize the true depths of the danger they've waded into. Two women, separated by a hundred years, must uncover the secrets within the borders of their own town before it's too late and they lose their future--or their very souls.

Bravo.' -- Peter Caddick-Adams, author and broadcaster A detailed and engrossing account of the fighting in Ukraine in 1944, making use of the extensive memoirs of German and Russian soldiers involved in the fighting, as well as partisans behind the German lines, to bring the story to life. By the end of 1944 the Red Army was poised on the very frontiers of the Third Reich. How had the once unstoppable, mighty Wehrmacht faltered so disastrously? Certainly it had suffered defeats before, in particular the vast catastrophe of Stalingrad, but it was in 1944 that the war was ultimately lost. It was no longer a case of if but rather when the Red Army would be at the gates of Berlin. Prit Buttar retraces the ebb and flow of the various battles and campaigns fought throughout the Ukraine and Romania in 1944. January and February saw Army Group South encircled in the Korsun Pocket. Although many of the encircled troops did escape, in part due to Soviet intelligence and command failures, the Red Army would endeavour to not make the same mistakes again. Indeed, in the coming months the Red Army would demonstrate an ability to learn and improve, reinventing itself as a war-winning machine, demonstrated clearly in its success in the Iasi-Kishinev operation. The view of the Red Army as a huge, unskilled horde that rolled over everything in its path is just one myth that The Reckoning reassesses. So too does it re-evaluate the apparent infallibility of German military commanders, the denial of any involvement in (or often even knowledge of) the heinous crimes committed in the occupied territories by German forces, and the ineffectiveness of Axis allies, such as the Romanians at Iasi, to withstand the Soviet forces. Like all myths, these contain many truths, but also a great many distortions, all of which are skilfully unpicked and analysed in this powerful retelling of 1944 on the Eastern Front.

Download The Reckoning books, In this “rich, satisfying, and gorgeously written sequel” (Chapters) to her acclaimed debut novel, The Taker, Alma Katsu pairs a mysteriously alluring young woman with an ER doctor from rural Maine on a harrowing, passion-fueled chase that transcends the boundaries of time. Lanore McIlvrae is the kind of woman who will do anything for love. Including imprisoning the man who loves her behind a wall of brick and stone. She had no choice but to entomb Adair, her nemesis, to save Jonathan, the boy she grew up with in a remote Maine town in the early 1800s and the man she thought she would be with forever. But Adair had other plans for her. He used his mysterious, otherworldly powers to give her eternal life, but Lanore learned too late that there was a price for this gift: to spend eternity with him. And though he is handsome and charming, behind Adair’s seductive façade is the stuff of nightmares. He is a monster in the flesh, and he wants Lanore to love him for all of time. Now, two hundred years after imprisoning Adair, Lanore is trying to atone for her sins. She has given away the treasures she’s collected over her many lifetimes in order to purge her past and clear the way for a future with her new lover, Luke Findley. But, while viewing these items at an exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Lanore suddenly is aware that the thing she’s been dreading for two hundred years has caught up to her: Adair has escaped from his prison. He’s free— and he will come looking for her. And she has no idea how she will save herself. With the stunningly imaginative storytelling and rich characterizations that fascinated readers worldwide and made The Taker a singular and memorable literary debut and an international sensation, Alma Katsu once again delivers “a powerful evocation of the dark side of romantic love” (Publishers Weekly) in her breathtaking new novel.

The Reckoning, a book by Robert William Chambers. Get The Reckoning Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Reckoning books, The author's intention is to treat, in a series of four or five romances, that part of the war for independence which particularly affected the great landed families of northern New York: the Johnsons, represented by Sir William, Sir John, Guy Johnson, and Colonel Claus; the notorious Butlers, father and son; the Schuylers, Van Rensselaers, and others. The first romance of the series, Cardigan, was followed by the second, The Maid-at-Arms. The third in order is not completed. The fourth is the present volume. As Cardigan pretended to portray life on the baronial estate of Sir William Johnson, the first uneasiness concerning the coming trouble, the first discordant note struck in the harmonious councils of the Long House, so, in The Maid-at-Arms, which followed in order, the author attempted to paint a patroon family disturbed by the approaching rumble of battle. That romance dealt with the first serious split in the Iroquois Confederacy; it showed the Long House shattered though not fallen; the demoralization and final flight of the great landed families who remained loyal to the British Crown; and it struck the key-note to the future attitude of the Iroquois toward the patriots of the frontier—revenge for their losses at the battle of Oriskany—and ended with the march of the militia and Continental troops on Saratoga. The third romance, as yet incomplete and unpublished, deals with the war-path and those who followed it, led by the landed gentry of Tryon County, and ends with the first solid blow delivered at the Long House, and the terrible punishment of the Great Confederacy. The present romance, the fourth in chronological order, picks up the thread at that point. The author is not conscious of having taken any liberties with history in preparing a framework of facts for a mantle of romance.

Download The Reckoning books, For centuries, the importance of financial accounting has been well understood. Essential to building businesses, states, and even empires, accounting has also helped leaders measure their power and craft their policies. When practiced poorly or neglected, accounting has contributed to cycles of destruction, as the 2008 financial crisis has made all too clear. In The Reckoning, award-winning historian Jacob Soll shows how the use and misuse of financial bookkeeping has determined the fate of entire societies. In the right hands, accounting has created social stability, good governance, and economic prosperity. In the wrong hands, good accounting practices have often been subverted, with disastrous results ranging from financial losses and debt to complete economic collapse. From the Medici bankers to the director of finances under Louis XVI, from the Industrial Revolution to the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Great Recession, The Reckoning demonstrates that civilizations are only as strong as their bookkeepers.

Between weddings, a birth, and impending war, Aiden and Jessica strive to carve out their own path in a world that’s never experienced a love like theirs. Their decisions could not only cost them their own lives, but also change the fate of humans and elves forever. As the riveting conclusion to the Legacy Trilogy, The Reckoning captivates until the very last page.

Download The Reckoning books, Reeling from the sudden death of the pope during an international celebration, the Archbishops of the Roman Catholic Church unanimously elect Peter Carenza, a charismatic young priest from the United States, to be the next Pontiff. Carenza has revitalized the Church in America, attracting new worshipers in droves to his scandal-free, countrywide congregation. Carenza remakes the Church in his new image, allowing priests to marry, giving power to women, and preaching of the power of God in man — which Carenza himself seems to wield. He can heal the sick, summon lightning from a clear sky, even raise the dead. Is Peter Carenza the long prayed-for Second Coming? Or do his powers come from a darker Master?
